Book Recommendation Sunday

On Sundays,  I like to take a minute to reflect on a book that has influenced me the most during the week or a book that has been on my mind.  We generally think of novels for book recommendations and often times they are, but so many other types of books are used for my lifestyle that I will be sharing those as well.  This week I choose Veritas Press' The Gospels Teacher's Manual.  It has been invaluable and insightful for me this week as I teach and learn The Gospels along with my children.  Can you think of a better time of year dive into the life of Jesus?  Veritas Press provides student with doctrinally sound studies of the Bible including exciting activities that reinforce what their are learning.  This week, we learned about Zachariah and the birth of John the Baptist.  When John was born, Zachariah could not speak.  Elizabeth said the baby would be named John and the people in the temple could not believe it, because it was not a family name.  So, when they asked Zachariah the name of the baby, he wrote on a clay tablet, "His name is John."  The book suggested an activity that my children did this week to make a clay tablet of their own and carve in the scripture "His name is John."  I like when we can learn by hearing, seeing, smelling, tasting, and touching, because a child's retention goes up into the 90 percentile.  I haven't even touched on the beautiful art work Veritas uses with their bible and their other curriculum.   It has a built-in Art History course.  It is worth doing.  We have thoroughly enjoyed it this week.
